Happy 95th Birthday, YIS
The idea of an international school in Yokohama was germinated at a meeting held on September 24, 1924, 95 years ago today. Six founding members pledged moral and financial support to the forming of a new school for foreign students. Morning classes commenced on October 27, 1924 in a rented room at the local YMCA with an enrollment of six students aged between six and twelve years and a locally employed female teacher. We've had 45 graduating classes since our first in 1973 with only 9 students; families and staff from countries all over the globe; dignitaries and notable figures in history on our campus; and families who have sent children and grand children to our school. We have plenty to be proud of as a school community. Here's wishing all Dragons in Japan and overseas, a happy 95th birthday.🎂🎂🎉🎉
